Morsi’s assumption of sweeping powers polarises Egypt

The sweeping new powers that Egyptian President Morsi has assumed make him immune from being overruled – a situation some say is reminiscent of the leader he replaced.  But Morsi defends his move as necessary in order to hold those responsible for corruption and other crimes committed during the previous regime and transitional period.
