The Israeli Defense Force, on high alert since an Israeli Air Force strike on Monday killed a senior Hezbollah commander and an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general, Mohammed Allahdadi, in the Golan Heights on Monday, has closed a road between the towns of Avivim and Dovev, near the Lebanon border, as well as moving tanks and armored personnel carriers to the area, according to Israel National News.
Israel has also transferred Iron Dome missile defense batteries to the Syrian border; Iran has stated that they will seek revenge for the air strike. Revolutionary Guards’ chief General Mohammad Ali Jafari told the Fars news agency, “These martyrdoms proved the need to stick with jihad. The Zionists must await ruinous thunderbolts.”
Israeli jets and helicopters are patrolling the Lebanese border, according to the Lebanese media.
Reuters reported that a senior IDF official claimed that the air strike was only intended to hit low-level Hezbollah terrorists about to attack Israeli soldiers stationed at the border. The source told Reuters, “We did not expect the outcome in terms of the stature of those killed – certainly not the Iranian general. We thought we were hitting an enemy field unit that was on its way to carry out an attack on us at the frontier fence. We got the alert, we spotted the vehicle, identified it was an enemy vehicle and took the shot. We saw this as a limited tactical operation.”
