Knesset Member Says Obama Treated Netanyahu Like ‘Leader Of The Taliban

On Tuesday, Knesset member and former deputy minister of defense to Netanyahu, Danny Danon, appeared on the Steve Malzberg Show to talk about the situation in Gaza. During the conversation, Danon described the increasingly strained relationship between the United States and Israel under the leadership and apparent ill will of President Obama.

Danon, a member of the Likud party, described the private phone conversation, leaked in a controversial reported transcript released by The Times of Israel earlier the same day, which both the Prime Minister and the President claim has been grossly mischaracterized. Danon says the President yelled and made demands, and has in general dealt unfairly with Israel throughout the conflict.

“I don’t know if it was published in the U.S., but here in Israel we all talk about the phone conversation between President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu,” said Danon. “It was not a pleasant conversation. If you saw what happened there, it was not pleasant.”

Danon then made an even more stark comparison:

“He was yelling, and telling Prime Minister Netanyahu what he should do and what he should not do. And I tell you frankly we have a very close relationship with the U.S., the strongest ally of Israel, but this is not a way to treat the leader of an ally country. He is not talking – President Obama – with a leader of the Taliban. He is talking with the leader of the state of Israel, of the Jewish people. And when we are in a time of war we need the backing and the support of the U.S. Unfortunately we do not have it now.”

Danon urges the Prime Minister to put the priorities of Israel and its citizens first, even if it means telling Obama no. He concluded by saying that it is very hard for the people of Israel to hear such a lack of support from the United States when they are burying their troops. “It is not the time when you expect to get such a conversation, such an attitude from a friend.”

Statement by the President on the Occasion of Eid-al-Fitr

As Muslims throughout the United States and around the world celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, Michelle and I extend our warmest wishes to them and their families.  This last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate.  While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease.

In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.  That is why we stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities.

On behalf of the Administration, we wish Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration.  Eid Mubarak.

On Sunday, President Obama and First Lady Michelle released a statement thanking Muslim Americans for their many “achievements and contributions… to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.”

The comments were made to mark the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, a time of spiritual renewal for Muslims which comes at the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. The Obamas said in their statement that Eid “celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity” and “welcomed their commitment to giving back to their communities.” The International Business Times reports that during Eid, Muslims join in Islamic prayer, while saying “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is Great,” and feasting.

The statement further reads that the administration “wishes Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration.” The letter ended with salutation of “Eid Mubarak,” which roughly means “blessed celebration.”

Ambassador Rips Media For Coverage Of Israel-Gaza Conflict

MIAMI (CBS Miami) — The Israeli ambassador to the United States is claiming that the “media is not connecting the dots” to Hamas following a story of 15 Palestinians killed when a United Nations school they sought shelter in was shelled.

Appearing on CNN Thursday evening, Ron Dermer chastised the network for not including in their coverage about how Hamas was using schools to hide rockets.

“It would be a disservice to your viewers for a reporter from Gaza not to mention that in the last week we had two different UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) schools where we had actually rockets found in the schools and handed over to Hamas,” Dermer said.

He then added: “Do you not think that it’s relevant to report on CNN that the secretary-general of the United Nations yesterday warned against the use of U.N. schools and shelter for rocket missile deposits of Hamas?”
