Pro-Russian separatists on Monday ignored an ultimatum to leave occupied government buildings

(Reuters) – Pro-Russian separatists on Monday ignored an ultimatum to leave occupied government buildings in easternUkraine while another group of rebels attacked a police headquarters as a threatened military offensive by government forces failed to materialize.

Rebels in the town of Slaviansk, which was expected on Monday to be the focus of a broad government “anti-terrorist” operation involving the army, issued a bold call for Russian President Vladimir Putin to help them.

Though he said on Monday that the offensive was going ahead, Ukraine’s interim president Oleksander Turchinov sacked the state security chief in charge of the operation, signaling possible discord behind the scenes.

DHS study: North Korea capable of EMP attack on U.S.

WASHINGTON – A long-suppressed report prepared by the Department of Homeland Security for the Defense Department concludes that North Korea could deliver on its threats to destroy the United States with a nuclear electromagnetic pulse attack.

The report remains blocked from release to the American public.

However, a copy obtained by Peter Vincent Pry from sources within DHS finds North Korea could use its Unha-3 space launch vehicle to deliver a nuclear warhead as a satellite over the South Pole to attack the U.S. from the south.

Pry, executive director of the congressional advisory Task Force on National and Homeland Security, pointed out that the U.S. “has no early warning radars or interceptors” to stop a missile from the south.

Pry also was the staff director to the congressionally mandated EMP commission, which concluded that the damage from either a natural or man-made EMP event on the nation’s unprotected electrical grid would have a cascading impact on life-sustaining critical infrastructures as well as electronic components and automated control systems.

Along with the electrical grid system, the critical infrastructures include telecommunications, banking, finance, petroleum and natural gas pipelines, transportation, food and water delivery, emergency services and space systems.

DHS conducted the study after the spring 2013 nuclear crisis with North Korea in which the communist government’s leadership threatened a “preemptive” nuclear strike on the U.S. and then released videos depicting a nuclear attack on Washington.

Pry said North Korea successfully practiced the EMP attack scenario three months before the crisis.

During the crisis, he said, North Korea issued a general mobilization order to its “nuclear forces” that included “space forces.”

“The North Koreans are seeing what they can get away with,” Pry said. “It shows that Pyongyang is planning something big against the U.S.”

In an interview with WND, Pry said the revelations in the suppressed DHS report are only the latest indications of North Korean intentions aimed at a possible nuclear EMP attack on the U.S.

He said the prospect is the latest in a series of recent North Korean actions.

Pry referred to the revelation of a Soviet-era nuclear-capable ground-to-air SA-2 missile that was discovered on a North Korean ship detained in the Panama Canal in July 2013 after leaving Cuba, only 90 miles from U.S. shores.

U.S. intelligence believes the missile was headed back to North Korea for refurbishment.

Cuba is assessed to have some 100 of the ground-to-air missiles ostensibly designed to knock out aircraft. However, Pry said that armed with a nuclear weapon and exploded over the East Coast, one or two of the SA-2s being launched over the East Coast would knock out the Eastern grid, which services some 70 percent of the U.S. population.

At the time of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, the SA-2s were not an issue of contention for elimination from the island. Instead, the focus was on the ground-to-ground missiles the Soviet Union then removed. However, the SA-2s remain in Cuba to this day.

Revelation of a Cuban SA-2 on a North Korean ship also brought into focus the increasingly close military ties Pyongyang is developing with Havana.

Pry said that an EMP attack on the U.S. would not have to originate from North Korea but could be a missile, such as the SA-2, launched from a freighter off the U.S. East or Gulf Coasts. At that point, there would be no missile defense capable of halting such an event.

With a missile launched from a freighter, it could be difficult to identify who is responsible for an attack.

Nevada Senator, Governor Join Critics of Bundy Ranch Roundup

Wednesday, Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) joined Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval in criticizing the federal government’s handling of the Bundy cattle dispute, arguing that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management  was “overreaching” while Sandoval blasted the department for creating “an atmosphere of intimidation” by the extreme manner in which it was seizing Bundy’s private property.

Federal agencies now manage or control more than 80 percent of Nevada, which has led to numerous disputes with ranchers who have challenged federal land ownership. For over 20 years, Rancher Cliven Bundy has been disputing grazing rights with state and federal agencies over 250 square miles of federal reserve land in a remote Nevadan location 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

Bundy and his family had been using the area as grazing land for decades, when in 1993 federal land managers expressed concern for federally-protected tortoises, capping Bundy’s herd number at 150. Eventually, federal officials revoked Bundy’s grazing rights altogether. However, Bundy has ignored land managers’ restrictions, claiming preemptive grazing rights and refusing to remove them and pay what the agency claims is $1.1 million in unpaid grazing fees.

The dispute finally came to a head when the BLM ordered the confiscation of Bundy’s cattle, which has involved moving in a reported 200 armed agents, bringing in hired ranchers to roundup the cattle, and shutting down a 1,200 square-mile area through May 12. After an argument over protestors’ rights to film the cattle being confiscated, federal agents also marked off a “First Amendment Area” beyond which they said no protestors could operate without potential consequences. (Video above was posted on YouTube by a protestor.)

The federal agency’s action, particularly the “First Amendment Zone,” forced the Nevada Republican governor into the fray Tuesday, who made a formal statement blasting the BLMfor “trampl[ing] upon Nevadans fundamental rights”:

Due to the roundup by the BLM, my office has received numerous complaints of BLM misconduct, road closures and other disturbances. I have recently met with state legislators, county officials and concerned citizens to listen to their concerns. I have expressed those concerns directly to the BLM.

Most disturbing to me is the BLM’s establishment of a “First Amendment Area” that tramples upon Nevadans’ fundamental rights under the U.S. Constitution. To that end, I have advised the BLM that such conduct is offensive to me and countless others and that the “First Amendment Area” should be dismantled immediately. No cow justifies the atmosphere of intimidation which currently exists nor the limitation of constitutional rights that are sacred to all Nevadans. The BLM needs to reconsider its approach to this matter and act accordingly.

Wednesday, Senator Heller weighed in on the issue, stating that after hearing from locals and the Nevada Cattlemen’s Association about the massive land closure—which covers an area half the size of Delaware—he had become “extremely concerned about the size of this closure and disruptions with access to roads, water and electrical infrastructure.” Heller told the new BLM chief, Neil Kornze (former advisor to Harry Reid), that the “overreaching” agency was penalizing law-abiding Nevadans.

Meanwhile, Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Las Vegas) defended the BLM’s actions, arguing that the agency was simply enforcing court orders to remove the animals from federal land.

BLM and Park Services deem their drastic tactics necessary due to the threatening nature of some of Bundy’s comments. At one point Bundy called the dispute a “range war” and promised to “do whatever it takes” to protect his private property.

Federal agents have seized more than 200 of Bundy’s 900 cattle so far.

Separatists build barricades in east Ukraine, Kiev warns of force

(Reuters) – Pro-Russian separatists reinforced barricades around the state security building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk on Wednesday and called on President Vladimir Putin for help after the government warned it could use force to restore order.

But protesters were also engaged in talks to ease the standoff, which Kiev has said could provide a pretext for a Russian invasion, and lawmakers from eastern Ukraine proposed an amnesty for protesters to defuse tension.

The former KGB headquarters is one of three government buildings seized this week in eastern Ukraine by protesters demanding regional referendums on independence from Kiev, like the one in Crimea that led to its annexation by Russia.

Tensions have risen in the mainly Russian-speaking east since the overthrow of Ukraine’s Moscow-backed president and the installation of a new pro-European government.

“Of course we must ask Russia to take us in because I don’t see an alternative,” said a man dressed in camouflage who gave his name as Vasiliy and said he was the commandant of the building. “Putin help us!” he said.

Obama ‘Champion Of Change’ Amnesty Advocate Indicted For Immigration Fraud

An amnesty advocate that President Barack Obama’s White House publicly promoted as part of its “Champion of Change” series has been indicted in federal court on charges of fraud.

Bonnie M. Youn, who Obama’s White House touts on its website as “a recognized Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) community leader in Georgia,” was indicted on three criminal charge counts in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia Atlanta Division on April 1, according to publicly filed court documents.

The first indictment count alleges Youn committed perjury with regard to an alien illegally in the United States. The second indictment count alleges that Youn violated a federal immigration law that prohibits bringing illegal aliens into the United States and harboring them, alleging she did so “for the purpose of commercial advantage and private financial gain.” The third indictment count alleges Youn illegally tampered with witness testimony, specifically alleging she influenced the illegal alien—whose identity is kept anonymous in the indictment—to provide false information about employment in the United States to federal agents.

The indictment, signed by U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates and two Assistant U.S. Attorneys, indicates that Youn’s alleged illegal activity began “on or about February 9, 2009,” just as President Obama took office at the beginning of his first term and before she was honored by the White House. The third indictment count says that the alleged witness tampering began on or about August 15, 2011.

An arrest warrant was filed for Youn Tuesday.

Youn is listed on the White House “Champions of Change: Immigration Reform” website. That site, which along with a page specifically about her remains on WhiteHouse.gov after she was indicted on these criminal charges related to the White House’s honoring of her, states she was awarded the title for being like Cesar Chavez. “The White House honors eleven people who embody the spirit of Cesar Chavez’s legacy and commit themselves to working in their communities to advocate and organize around immigration-related issues,” the White House says on the website that features Youn.

“Anti-Gun Senator Busted For Gun Trafficking”

“An epic gun-control hypocrite.” California State Senator Leland Yee, a leading gun-control activist, was arrested March 26 in an FBI sting and charged with conspiring to traffic in firearms and public corruption. “This is heavy-duty international arms trafficking with organized crime figures,” says Civil Rights Attorney Chuck Michel. “The laws that he was pushing pale in comparison to the laws that he was breaking.”
