Jerry Brown: Global Warming Will Force More Immigrant Children North

We all saw it coming, but to hear it said out loud by a public figure who actually wants to be taken seriously is still surreal. California Governor Jerry Brown declared during a three-day trade mission to Mexico that global warming would (of course) force more immigrants to cross into the United States illegally, asking, what will those concerned about the children think “when millions of people are driven north from the parched landscapes of a world degraded by intensifying climate change?”

The Wall Street Journal reports that during his recent trip to Mexico, Gov. Brown spent the most time talking about climate change and immigration, and the intimate link between the two:

“We can see how some are fearful of children walking across the border. What will they think when millions of people are driven north from the parched landscapes of a world degraded by intensifying climate change?”

Brown’s remarks came at the signing of a climate-change agreement with Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Gov. Brown also pledged that he would do all in his power to provide aid and shelter to the thousands of illegal immigrant minors now being shipped into his state from Texas.

Other California Democrats, like L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, are likewise offering their commitment to providing resources and housing to illegal immigrants. Mayor Garcetti argued a few weeks ago that L.A. is the perfect location for many of the children because their parents probably already live in the area.
