Egypt death toll rises to 525 as Britain summons Egyptian ambassador

Britain has summoned the Egyptian ambassador for a meeting as the death toll from Wednesday’s attack on pro-Morsi supporters rose to 525.

The Foreign Office said it had summoned the Ambassador to express its “deep concern” at the violence.

London urged the authorities to act with “the greatest restraint”, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.

“We called in the Egyptian ambassador to express our deep concern at the escalating violence and unrest in Egypt,” a spokesman said.

Egyptian ambassadors to France and Germany were also called to similar meetings on Thursday.
