Bubble robots conjured from thin air

(multimedia) A tiny bubble of air is manipulated through a saline solution, directed by heat produced by infrared laser light. Its creators see this most simple of robots as a potentially ground-breaking tool for biomedical research. Here, a microbot is assembling yeast cells encased in hydrogel blocks, but it could be assembling cell structures for drug testing or building artificial tissue. And when the work is finished the bubble robot can be popped and returned to thin air. Rob Muir, Reuters.
