Welsh farmer digs sheep out of 5ft snow drifts

The heavy March snowfall has been a “disaster” for rural communities, says sheep farmer Gareth Wyn Jones as he desperately tries to dig his flock out of five-foot high drifts.

Mr Wyn Jones, from Bryneglwys, Corwen, said it was “unbelievable” that some sheep were still alive under the packed snow.

The heavy snowfall comes at the start of the lambing season and many of the sheep are heavily pregnant.

Using his dog to search for surviving animals at his farm at Llanfairfechan in Conwy, Mr Wyn Jones described the situation as “shattering, heartbreaking” and an “absolute disaster.”
