Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) sent out a letter Monday castigating Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) for documents he and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) released related to the Benghazi attacks.
According to Boxer, the Friday document dump “was reprehensible and deeply irresponsible.” She even went so far as to equate the release with “[treating] sensitive diplomatic information recklessly” while “national security is at risk and lives are on the line.”
The documents Boxer is referencing are the 166 pages that contained cables revealing how Ambassador Christopher Stevens reported “targeted and discriminate” attacks on Christians and the U.S. consulate months before the September attack took place. The Obama administration ignored these reports.
Those same documents contain cables with Stevens’ signature expressing concerns over security at the consulate early on Sept. 11 — the very day he was killed. The Obama administration ignored these concerns too.
Since the Democrats can’t come right out and say, “Please don’t publicize those documents because they demonstrate the failure of the Obama doctrine,” Boxer has instead taken the tact of acting like Issa released classified information to the public.
I contacted Issa’s office today and asked for a concise statement on Boxer’s letter, and his staff made it clear, “The documents were unclassified.”
Perhaps Obama and Democrat legislators should have been this concerned about “security at risk and lives on the line” when Ambassador Stevens was pleading for help.
