Troops and protesters clashed violently in the streets of Indian-controlled Kashmir on Tuesday, during a march against an anti-Islam film produced in the US. A strike shut down businesses and public transport in Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar as marchers burned US flags and an effigy of US President Barack Obama. Protesters torched a government jeep and damaged another. When the protesters tried to march into the main business district of the city, police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse them. “They have insulted our Prophet Muhammad, Peace be upon him, which is not bearable to us,” said one protester, Adil Khan. “We will sacrifice our lives for our prophet and our Koran.”
