Have 4.5 Million Jobs Really Been Added?

If you watched the opening night of the Democratic National Convention, you probably heard the number “4.5 million” a lot. That’s the number of private sector jobs Mr. Obama’s senior advisor Valerie Jarrett claims have been added over the President’s time in office.

“Now we’ve created more than four and a half, we’ve had 29 consecutive months of private sector job growth.”

But the context of that number has some news organizations crying foul. Here’s CNN.

“Private sector jobs during this administration 4.5 million is indeed the right number. The problem is, as we all know, there were many jobs lost. In fact, there were 5 million private sector jobs lost.”
