Prior to major events, such as an earthquake, people have been documented as having everything from physical discomfort and pain to dreams and anxiety which they attribute to their prediction of the event. Like it or not, believe it or not, we have a connection to this Earth from which Adam was created, and like it or not, believe it or not, we were created in God’s image, which makes us inherently spiritual. Many people are born with a naturally supernatural gift, but not all of those people choose to use that gift to glorify God. That does not detract from their having been given a gift.
That being said, there are a couple of curious movie and television programs coming out that cause one to wonder where the insight is coming from.
NBC’s Revolution, paints a picture of our civilization being radically brought to its knees as all electricity inexplicably fails throughout the world. It then paints a portrait of what America would look like 15 years after; with electricity still a memory.
This is not to say that all of the electricity is going to mysteriously become history, but it does show our undeniable and possibly unhealthy dependence on it. If you were to talk to people that have suffered through such tragedies as hurricane Katrina, they would more often than not testify to how we as a civilization collapse with our infrastructure due to a lack of individual resilience.
The movie trailer for Branded has touched on multiple spiritual nerves, but the main one being that there is a spiritual entity behind the different vices in the world. The other prominent focus of the movie seems to be man’s capacity to capitalize on this knowledge.
Though this movie is considered to be a sci-fi, it has much more horrific spiritual connotations, not the least of which appears to be minions serving principalities. You see almost comical or welcoming geometric shapes and bright cheerful colors being used to defuse the complacent eye into believing all is well, while being brought deeper into the control of a much darker and terrifying reality. These dark forces may not exist in the physical morphological form portrayed in the movie, they do exist as minions of the evil one who is trying to bring about “One World” government and philosophical changes that will make the few – the rulers. The third prominent point of this movie falls into the category of spiritual revelation; we as a society have chosen these principalities to rule over us.
Are these the first media productions to tap into such insight? No, not even close, but when watching the previews, you can’t help but feel that there is something unique about them. This is not an endorsement of any shape or form, but a call to question what the world is seeing, why and does it speak of eminent events or a spiritual state of being.
What is the relevance to us as Christians? How do we prepare for catastrophe or address the spiritual state of being? We look to Christ! We dive deeper into His word. We discipline ourselves to spend more time in prayer, and we seek His guidance on how to move forward. You can have all of the batteries, bottled water and ammo in the world, but without that relationship with Christ Jesus, it’s all for nothing.
Don’t allow the dazzle of the world’s perception of the world to take you in. It is true that there are those with a gift in Hollywood, but that does not detract from the Giver of the gift.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
