(multimedia) Special prosecutor Angela Corey has decided to bring charges against neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the killing of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida, a law enforcement official said Wednesday.
It is unclear what charges he will face. But a press conference is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET in Jacksonville, Fla. where Corey will announce the charges, the official said.
Meanwhile, Trayvon Martin’s family and their attorney, Ben Crump, are calling for calm as the hour approaches.
The official says authorities know where Zimmerman is, and that they’re planning to arrest him soon rather than let him turn himself in. The official says Zimmerman isn’t in Florida. His arrest has been delayed partly because of Florida’s “stand your ground” law.
